House in Saijo

House in Saijo
(Toshiyuki Yano / Photo)

In a neighbourhood of similarly designed houses, visitors to this house in Saijo, Japan should never ever confuse themselves as to which one they are going to. Suppose Design Office designed the house as an embedded pyramid to balance openness and privacy. The site was excavated and the excess soil used to build the hill which surrounds the site, while the building itself has few windows to speak of. In terms of openness, the top of the home is open to filter in light, while the base of the pyramid is surrounded by glass windows. Check after the jump for more images. Link
